West Des Moines Child Care Center

Statement of Objectives

It is the objective of West Des Moines Child Care Center to care for the emotional, physical, social, developmental, and cognitive well-being of each child in its care. This objective is met by providing a stable, caring environment, and quality, age appropriate curriculum which recognizes each child’s right to be happy and have challenging experiences which lead to the development of his or her fullest potential.

Specific Goals
● To provide a caring, structured environment with learning activities which stimulate curiosity,
promote independent learning and enhance learning.
● To provide ample opportunities for play, focusing on imagination, inventiveness, and
resourcefulness.
● To respect each child as an individual with unique differences, and to help each child develop a positive self-esteem.
● To reward positive behavior in a positive manner.
● To promote strong ties between the center and families we serve.
● To enhance open honest communication between center, staff and parents.

Curriculum
The Center utilizes a standard preschool curriculum for children over the age of two. Creative Curriculum meets all of the assessment standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National Association of State Early Childhood Specialists in State Departments of Education (NASECS/SDE). An overview of the
curriculum can be seen at www.creativecurriculum.net. The goal of this curriculum is to provide developmentally appropriate learning materials that allow our staff to easily facilitate a creative, integrated, hands-on learning experience for the whole child. The areas that are stressed in the curriculum are: color, shape, number, and letter recognition, large and
small motor skills, language development, beginning vowel sounds, sequencing, predicting, graphing, patterning, problem solving, and character development. In addition we utilize a separate curriculum, also provided by Creative Curriculum, for children under the age of
two, which focuses on large and small motor skills, language development, and socialization.
